CHRP “Smitty” gets a new set of stairs!

Everett Smith is almost blind and has a hard time walking. He does not need a wheelchair or ramp, but needed to improve access to his home. Upon inspection of his property, our CHRP team leader, Cullen Hollister decided that we needed to replace one set of steps by his back door with a platform and steps & guardrail for safety and either move the existing pavers out to accommodate the platform addition or provide about 9-10 new ones. In addition, we needed to repair one set of steps off the front porch by replacing the treads or by just building new steps – which ended up as the better solution.

As you can see by the pictures, the results were wonderful and will allow Smitty to continue living in his home with dignity and safety for some time to come.

We thank our volunteers, Cullen Hollister, Raymond Ojeda, Michael Mathews and Gary SanGiovanni.
